Jorge Posada caused him some trouble when he hit a single and it was followed by Russell Martin with a home run over the centerfield fence. Those were the two runs the Yankees scored off Buchholz. The Yankee lineup has a history against him, and made good numbers,Snapback hats but Buchholz did some really great pitching. The YanBoston Red Soxkees missed 16 or his 110 pitches helping Clay Buchholz give an impressive performance.

Can The Red Sox Or Twins Come Back And Make The Postseason??Boston Red S

Carl Crawford. Pundits around the baseball world were ceding the AL East title, and some even the World Series championship, to the denizens of Fenway Park. Why even play the season? (some of them would write). Adding these players to an already-good team would make the 2011 season an afterthought.

Can The Red Sox Or Twins Come Back And Make The Postseason??Boston Red S,Well. Things dont always work out the way theyre laid out on ; the Red Sox got off to an 0-6 start, at which time it was pointed out by many of these same pundits that no team starting 0-6 had ever won the World Series. (Some have made the postseason, however.) The Red Sox are still struggling; at one point they won eight of nine, but have yet to crack the .500 mark. Meanwhile, the

Rays, who also started 0-6 (and scored only eight runs in the six games), have gone on a 23-9 run and lead the AL East by two games.

Which raises the question: Can teams come back from horrific starts to make the playoffs?

The answer is not only yes, but some teams that have started the season in last place and lost nearly two-thirds of their early games have even made — and won — the World Series. It happens, actually, almost every year. Lets look at some recent clubs who accomplished this (and some who came close) and how they did it.

It didnt happen last year, but an honorable mention goes to the 2010

Ted Lilly on June 13, at which time they were 28-34 (the Cubs, meanwhile, were 28-35). The Chisox then went on a 22-7 run; when they beat the

Twins. That was as good as it got; the Twins, lurking around .500 at 49-45 on that July 20 date, went 45-23 the rest of the way and won the AL Central by six games (setting up their usual loss to the

Yankees in the Division Series).

The 2009 Twins are one of the teams that came back from a bad start around this time of year to make the postseason; in ct, a lot of these narratives involve Minnesota. On May 20, 2009, the Twins were 18-23 and 5.5 games out of first place. A 20-1 win over the White Sox the next day jump-started them, but they were two games under .500 as late as September 12 (70-72). From there, nfl hats they went 16-4 to tie the

Tigers on the seasons final day and won an excruciatingly exciting tiebreaker game … setting up their usual loss to the Yankees in the Division Series.

The year before, the White Sox were 18-21 on May 13; an eight-game winning streak put them in first place, where they stayed most of the season. They needed to win three straight elimination games against three different teams (the final regular-season game against the

Indians; a makeup game of a postponement against the Tigers; and a tiebreaker over the Twins) to win the AL Central.

The 2007 Cubs were 22-31 on June 2; that was the day Lou Piniella went on what he later said was a premeditated tirade to get his team fired up (the play he was arguing, Lou admitted, was pretty clear-cut and the umpire was correct). The Cubs took over first place in mid-August in a weak division but had to wait until two days remained in the season to clinch the division title. It remains as one of only two Cubs teams in history to be nine or more games under .500 at any time, yet finish with a winning record.

An even more mous example from 2007 is the

Rockies, who were 18-27 on May 21, buried in last place in the NL West, hats for sale seven games out of first place. They hovered around the .500 mark until September 15, when they were 76-72; then they went on that amazing 14-1 run which included winning an extra-inning tiebreaker against the Padres (who are, in ct, still waiting for

Diamondbacks out of the postseason, reaching the World Series before running into the Red Sox buzzsaw.

The Twins — told you this would involve a lot of Minnesota love — did it again in 2006. After an 11-inning loss in Seattle on June 7, their record stood at 26-33; they were 11.5 games behind the division-leading Tigers, who had the best record in the major leagues at 37-22. This run may be the most impressive of all the recent comebacks; from June 8 through July 14 the Twins went 33-8, although they still trailed by 8.5 games. It took a win over the White Sox on the seasons final day to make them division champions, with the Tigers relegated to wild-card status. This time the Twins managed to avoid the Yankees in the first round. That didnt work either, as they got swept by the Athetics.

In 2005, two clubs that got off to terrible starts made the postseason — the Yankees, who had started 11-19, were still under .500 on June 12 at 30-32 after an interleague loss to the

Cardinals. It took them until September 21 to grab first place, but from July 1 to the end of the season they went 56-29. And the

Astros, who had suffered serious injuries early in that season, started 15-30 and were sub-.500 as late as July 18. A 19-11 mark after September 1 got them the wild card Baseball hats, and they dispatched the

Braves and Cardinals in the NL playoffs before the World Series, where they were swept by a hot White Sox club.

For a Cubs n, this ones the most difficult to write … The 2003

Marlins, after a 16-22 start, fired manager Jeff Torborg and replaced him with 73-year-old Jack McKeon, who was viewed as just keeping the chair warm, coming down from a comfortable front-office suite. The Marlins won the NL wild card with a 21-8 season-ending run, and … well, if I werent a Cubs n, Id write the rest of it, but I assume you all know how that ended.

This sort of thing happens almost every year — a team drops to eight or ten games under .500 around Memorial Day and looks like it cant win a thing. When the Yankees got off to that 11-19 start, they gave up eight runs or more 11 times. The 2005 Astros start included losing streaks of four, five, six and seven games. The 2009 Twins lost 12 of 18 at one point early on.

So if youre a n of the Red Sox,

Brewers, or even the Twins — who currently have the worst record in the major leagues — do not give up hope. Your teams all have talent and have made the postseason in recent years. Its entirely possible those teams will run off 11 wins in 13 games gucci hats, or have a couple of six-game winning streaks, and knock a club like the Indians or Cardinals out of first place.

It may get late early, as Yogi Berra once said. But its not too late for comebacks — yet.

Of course! This race has just begun. The AL East is one of the most exciting divisions baseball has to offer. Though I see many other divisions with 2 teams having 20 wins at least. I expect some nice races towards August and September. Far from over is correct Al.

Last year the Red Sox began 19-20, but as soon as June 30 were on pace to get 96 wins, which is what it eventually took the Rays to win the division.

Boston Red SScott McNealy re-emerges in tech circles

Scott McNealy, who co-founded and led Sun Microsystems for many years before its sale to Oracle last year, is once again engaging in the technology world.

Boston Red SScott McNealy re-emerges in tech circles,Fittingly for the one-man sound bite ctory, McNealy has taken to Twitter, dishing up snarky remarks and relishing the ct that not being CEO of a company means he doesnt have to be politically correct. And hes involved in business again, too, as chairman of stealth start-up WayIn.

McNealy isnt dishing on WayIn, but some details are bubbling up.

WayIn start-up

Mike Schmitz, who says hes senior director of consumer products and marketing at WayIn on his LinkedIn profile, has the most detailed description.

WayIn is a platform where consumers can play user-created games while watching television or live events, he said. Schmitz designed and managed our multi-device platform, which includes theiPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab,iPhone, Android, and the consumer Web site, and that he created the companys consumer strategy of recruiting Super Fans–a group of users interested in specific sports or television programming to create game content.

Schmitz also ran a contest for a WayIn.com logo at 99designs.com. There, he said, WayIn.com is a new Web site where anything on TV and events (like concerts or sports events) is discussed. There are groups for Dexter, fitted caps Mad Men, and the Boston Red Sox–if its on TV or at events like concerts or sporting events, then WayIn.com has an area for ns to chat all about it…Super ns can also create their own pages to discuss their vorite shows, build polls and share media…We plan to use Web intece technologies that cilitate interactions beyond the traditional forum.

WayIns director of software development is Liqun Lea Wang, according to her LinkedIn profile. Wang spent six years at Sun, running the Kenai site for hosting software projects, then stayed with Oracle until February. Wang says WayIn is in the Internet industry.

However, Guy Nemiro shows a somewhat different view on his LinkedIn page. He says that at WayIn, hes involved in bringing new content-prompting services and data analytics to enterprises.

Start-ups can be fluid of course, and not everyone sees them the same way. The company didnt immediately respond to a request for comment.

McNealy, off the leash

At Sun, a large and publicly traded company, there were limits to what McNealy could say, hats for sale though that didnt stop him from taking potshots at Microsoft, IBM, Dell, and other rivals. On Twitter, though, hes relishing his freedom.

Nice not being CEO w shrhlders, dont have 2 b PC, he said. In various tweets Cheap snapback hats, he criticizes the Obama administrations search for a gas-price culprit, tenured professors who presume to pontificate about the free market, and politicians who dont promote personal responsibility.

He also brings up technology matters.

Weighing in on the iPhone location tracking controversy, McNealy said, Someone once said U have no privacy get over it! Who was that? (He also added another miliar McNealy criticism of anonymity: Many worry bout no privacy (get over it). I worry as much/more bout absolute anonymity which breeds irresponsibility. Long live audit trails.

The white iPhone also evidently makes him roll his eyes. White is the new black! First TaylorMade golf clubs, now Apple iPhone. Why didnt we ship white Sun computers?!

McNealy is talking about his extracurriculars, too. Hes pitching the Curriki.org open-source education project he got involved in while at Sun. Hes an adviser to CollabWorks, which McNealy said harkens back to Suns old motto, The network is the computer. And as commissioner for the Alternative Golf Association, hes involved in promoting a version of golf that doesnt regulate the technology of golf clubs and golf balls or frown on the usage of mobile phones.

He also said he was happy to have had lunch with former eBay CEO and California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman, who, like McNealy, is a conservative. Indeed, many of McNealys tweets have an economically-related political flavor.

Is he going to take a crack at public office?

No, McNealy told CNET News. Not enough Kevlar to keep me alive as a candidate, he said.

Boston Red Sox notes: For Carl Crawford, eighth is enough for now

NEW YORK – In the list of big issues cing the Boston Red Sox, Carl Crawfords spot in the batting order doesnt rate.

Boston Red Sox notes: For Carl Crawford, eighth is enough for now,If Carl is getting hits, be it hitting first, second or eighth, its going to help us win, manager Terry Francona said Sunday.

He has batted seventh in eight other games. At the start of the year,New era hats Crawford batted in one of the first three spots 13 times, and Boston was 3-10.

That came when the left fielder was in the throes of a terrible slump. In his last 13 games, he is hitting .321.

If you move Carl,Cheap snapback hats youre obviously moving someone else. And hes doing a pretty good job (at No. 8), the manager said.

(No. 3 hitter) Adrian Gonzalez has been the best hitter in baseball. We like Dustin Pedroia in the second spot.

Francona has often said the teams like looks best with Jacoby Ellsbury, who is hitting .301, at leadoff.

Pedroia is hitting .184 in his last 18 games, but he had three hits Saturday. Francona has no interest in juggling the spot of a player he trusts so much.

Carl has been nothing but professional in everything. Even when he wasnt hitting cheap hats, his work ethic won the clubhouse over, Francona said.

TWO-INNING MAN: Matt Albers two-inning relief stint Saturday drew praise from Francona, who likes his relievers ability to pitch multiple innings.

Seeing how a starter is going in the game, I get a pretty good idea of what I might have to do. I think I pride myself in that, Albers said.

Albers has pitched 16 1/3 innings over 11 games. His 1.65 ERA, and his ability to stretch relief appeaBoston Red Soxrances over two innings Fitted hats,Baseball hats has raised the value of the former Baltimore reliever.

SCUTARO UPDATE: Shortstop Marco Scutaro has been working with a physical therapist in Miami. He is eligible to come off the disabled list for an oblique strain on May 23.

Francona said Scutaro will rejoin the Red Sox in Boston on Monday. No rehab schedule or possible Triple A stint has been announced yet.

SAVING STRENGTH: Those preseason debates about the closer role have ended, even though save chances have been scarce for Jonathan Papelbon.

Fridays save was his sixth in seven chances but first in 20 days, the longest save-free stretch of his career as a closer and not injured.

He made six appearances in non-save spots during that time. Of Bostons first 39 games, only 10 were decided by one run, and five others were decided by two runs.

Francona never wavered from Papelbon as closer, even after the acquisition of Bobby Jenks and the emergence of Daniel Bard.

Jenks is on the disabled list and has a 9.35 ERA. Bard is 0-3 with a 3.20 ERA, and has been erratic on occasion.

Daniel hasnt always commanded like he will, but we rely on him so much that when he doesnt, its glaring, Francona said in Bards defense.

Boston Red SRapid Reaction: Red Sox 7, Yankees 5

.mod-blog-post .mod-inline .mod-content p.stats-title margin: 0 !important.mod-blog-post .mod-content ul.stats li margin: 0 !important

Boston Red SRapid Reaction: Red Sox 7, Yankees 5,WHAT IT MEANS: The Boston Red SoxNew York Yankees should make like designated hitter Jorge Posada and apologize — not only to manager Joe Girardi, but also their entire nbase — for the way they’ve been playing lately.

The Yankees lost their fifth consecutive game on Sunday night, were swept by their arch rivals, the Boston Red Sox, and how now lost nine of their last 12.

On the bright side, Girardi and Posada did make amends before the game, right? So there’s that.

Luckily for the Yankees (20-18), the Tampa Bay Rays lost again,Baseball hats so they’re just two games back in the American League East. However, they’re just one game ahead of the third-place Red Sox (20-20).

FIVE-HOLE: Was that Bill Bucker or third baseman Alex Rodriguez? That’s what everyone was wondering after Rodriguez inexplicably let a potential double-play grounder roll under his glove and through his legs for a seventh-inning error, which allowed Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia to come around to score and give his team an all-important insurance run.

Rodriguez doubled in a run — with the help of a Carl Crawford error — in the bottom half of the frame, cutting the Yankees’ deficit to 6-5, but it wasn’t enough.

Reliever Joba Chamberlain came in and served up a solo homer to Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltacchia in the top of the eighth, and that was it.

OFFENSIVE: During the three-game series, mlb hats the Yankees scored just nine runs. In their last five games — all losses — they are 7-for-44 (.159) with runners in scoring position.

Rodriguez, who went 1-for-5 at the plate with two strikeouts on Sunday night, saw his batting average plummet to .250. He went 2-for-12 with five strikeouts during the series, and is 11 for his last 60 overall (.183).

FREDDY FALLS: The Yankees gave starter Freddy Garcia a 4-1 lead Red Bull Hats, but the 34-year-old gave it all back via the long ball. Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis mashed a 3-2 batting practice stball from Garcia over the left-field wall for a three-run shot, tying the game at 4 in the top half of the third.

Then, in the fifth, designated hitter David Ortiz hit what appeared to be a broken bat dinger into right that gave Boston a 5-4 lead.

SULTAN OF SOUTHPAWS: All of a sudden, the Grandyman can — mash lefties. With his second inning two-run homer off Red Sox ace Jon Lester, center fielder Curtis Granderson now has an MLB-leading six home runs against southpaws in 2011.

That’s the most long balls Granderson has hit off lefties in his career — and we’re just 38 games into the season. His 13 dingers are second in the majors behind Toronto Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista (16).

JONES MAKES HIS BONES: A decade. That’s how long it took for designated hitter Andruw Jones to bop another homer against the Red Sox. He took Lester deep to left leading off the top of the second for his second home run of 2011.

Jones was in the lineup because Posada is 0-for-24 versus southpaws this season. The 34-year-old now has 409 career homers, and is just five shy of tying Darrell Evans for 45th place on the all-time list.

SADO: After receiving a standing ovation from the crowd of 46,945,NFL jerseys from china Posada pinch-hit in the eighth inning for the first time this season and drew a leadoff walk. He went 1-for-13 as a pinch-hitter in 2010.

JETER METER: Yankees captain Derek Jeter went hitless and is still 35 hits away from 3,000 for his career.

STAT OF THE NIGHT: After striking out with two on to end the seventh, right fielder Nick Swisher is now 0-for-17 on the season with two outs and runners in scoring position.

WHAT’S NEXT: The Yankees head down south to take on the division-leading Tampa Bay Rays in a two-game series. New York will send right-hander A.J. Burnett (4-2, 3.38 ERA) to the hill on Monday night at Tropicana Field. He’ll ce Tampa Bay left-hander David Price (5-3 Baseball hats, 3.12).

For those who care, Posada is 1-for-18 lifetime against Price with 10 strikeouts. So expect Jones to start on Monday.

Hockey | Stanley Cup Playoffs: Bruins Have a Lead, but Not Peace of Mind

There was a distinct undercurrent of trepidation with Game 3 to be played here Wednesday, and it is easy to understand. Recent history, it seems, weighs heavily on the Bruins. Last spring, they took a three-game lead over the Philadelphia Flyers but lost the series, a collapse that included blowing a 3-0 lead in Game 7 at home. Only three blank new era snapback hats wholesale teams have ever lost a series after winning the first three games.

Even Flyers Coach Peter Laviolette senses the burden of history bearing down on the Bruins.

Surely Laviolette’s claim seems incredible, since it sounds almost as if he preferred that the Flyers had lost the first two games. David Krejci scored 14 minutes into the extra period, boosting the cheap hats wholesale Bruins’ overtime record this spring to 4-0, and capping a trip to Philadelphia that started with a 7-3 victory Saturday? Tim Thomas to hold off the Flyers on Monday. He stopped 52 of 54 shots, including the last 46 in a row.

“It’s almost unfair that we have Timmy back there cheap hats wholesale for us,” forward Brad Marchand said. “They could have dominated that game, and they did for the most part, but he just made some unbelievable saves.”

“Oh yes, we’ve talked about that quite a bit,” Bruins Coach Claude Julien said Tuesday, clearly tired of having to address questions about his team’s futility with a manpower advantage.

“We had some chances, but we didn’t bury them,” he said of the Bruins’ two power plays and five power-play shots Monday. “Although we didn’t score, I thought our power play was better. And if it keeps getting better, we’ll get results real soon.” Mike Milbury, a former Bruins defenseman and coach and now a cheap snapback caps wholesale television commentator, did not seem so optimistic. In a radio interview he suggested “blowing up” the power play and parking Boston’s 6-foot-9 defenseman, Zdeno Chara, in front of the Flyers’ net to create screens.

“If we play well, we’ll be up another game,” he cheap new era hats Wholesale said, without mentioning the 2010 debacle.

“You can say they’re the same, I guess,” Claude Giroux said, comparing this series with last year’s. “We’re in the same position.”

Laviolette acknowledged that the Flyers might be pressing their luck to think they can rally from a 2-0 deficit a year after coming all the way back against the same team. Still, he said, “we’re going to go into nhl jerseys from china Boston and have some fun — we just put our comfortable slippers on.”

Back in Boston, Recchi said the Bruins were blocking out the chatter about the prospect of failure with success so close.

A Once-Promising Field Gets Weaker

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — There will be 20 horses in the gate Saturday for the 137th running of the Kentucky Derby, but it is a stretch to say that they are the cream of this 3-year-old crop. The field lost another contender Tuesday when Toby’s Corner, the winner of the Wood Memorial, came up lame in his left hind leg and was declared out of the race. Fair Hill Training Center home near Elkton, Md., and was scheduled to arrive here by van Tuesday. His trainer, Graham Motion, had noticed that the colt wasWholesale Cheap DC shoes caps off in his left hind leg Monday and sent him for an examination at the nearby New Bolton Center, an equine hospital in Kennett Square, Pa. Dr. Dean Richardson, who operated on and oversaw the convalescence of the 2006 Kentucky Derby winner, Barbaro, but nothing could be found. Julian and Dianne Cotter bred and own Toby’s Corner and were driving to Kentucky from their home in Florida.

“Everybody hopes that they’re not that person that you read about Derby week that has a horse that goes the wrong way,” he added. “It’s tough to be in that spot.”

Uncle Mo was found to have a gastrointestinal infection Wholesale cheap snapback caps in the days after the Wood, and he has been receiving treatment while he has continued to train. Pletcher and Repole insist he is rounding back into form but have said there is only a 50-50 chance he will make the race. He is the colt under the most scrutiny here as reporters and rival horsemen try to figure out if he was truly hobbled by the infection in the Wood or if he merely cannot outrun his miler pedigree.

He pointed to the colt’s emphatic victory in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.

It was another cold, rainy morning Wholesale cheap new era fitted caps at Churchill Downs, but the Arkansas Derby winner Archarcharch splashed through a half-mile work in 52 seconds for the trainer Jinks Fires, who is making his Derby debut at 70. So is his son-in-law jockey, Jon Court, who will ride Archarcharch and was on the colt Tuesday morning for the work they did in tandem with his stablemate Supreme Ruler.

With Toby’s Corner scratched, the Lexington Wholesale cheap new era fitted hats Stakes winner Derby Kitten moved up to the 20th and final spot in the Derby starting gate. The colt is trained by Mike Maker and is owned by Ken Ramsey, a colorful Kentuckian who is known to push money through the betting windows with both hands.

“I’ll tell you this much: of all the trainers in Wholesale cheap new era snapback hats this year’s Kentucky Derby, Mike Maker has the two most appropriately named horses of them all, Twinspired and Derby Kitten,” Ramsey said. “Are you kidding me? It doesn’t get better than that. All you need is something with ‘rose’ in it, and then you’ve got it all.”

On Basketball: Grizzlies Make Room for Randolph’s Rough Edges

Talent, not surprisingly, wasn’t the reason.

In other words, Smedley said in a telephone interview, “it was political.” N.B.A. career, his stature is soaring as the power forward and scoring hub of the Memphis Grizzlies.

On the statistical side, Randolph has always been blank new era snapback hats wholesale productive. But the portrayals of him as a character guy on a winning team — “the best power forward in the league,” according to Kevin Durant — are stunning.

“He’s the same player he’s been since I took the job in Marion and I asked the town guys I call the drugstore experts, ‘What about this eighth grader, the Randolph kid?’ And they told me, ‘Oh, he’ll cheap snapback caps wholesale never be anything, he’s too clumsy.’ ” Portland Trail Blazers — and contributing to the image of a team nicknamed Jail Blazers. At the time, Smedley told a newspaper reporter that Randolph needed to make better decisions about friends and associates.

He did the interview in 2004 after Randolph withheld information from the police after a nightclub incident that involved his brother and the firing of a gun. Randolph was not charged, but his reputation as a trouble magnet continued to grow. marijuana and ammunition in hidden compartments. The police later raided a facility where Randolph cheap nba jerseys rented space and where other similar sport utility vehicles were discovered.

Through it all, Smedley said he maintained a belief that Randolph was more a victim of a challenging home environment than bad intentions. Growing up in Marion, a working-class town of about 30,000 about 65 miles northeast of Indianapolis, Randolph and three siblings lived with their mother, Mae, who needed government assistance cheap hats wholesale to support them.

He told Randolph to focus on making the high school team first. As a freshman, he alternated between varsity and junior varsity, and as a sophomore, he led the team to the state tournament final.

But everywhere Randolph has been since high cheap new era hats Wholesale school — including a one-and-done stay at Michigan State — his reputation preceded him. When the Knicks acquired Randolph in 2007, he offended no one and struck many as teddy bearish. But the trade was typical of the Isiah Thomas era: talent poorly mixed and matched. Center Eddy Curry was also a low-nhl jerseys from china post scorer and one who contributed little else. Both players’ defensive shortcomings were magnified.

“When you fit together, it makes all the difference,” said Smedley, who follows Randolph closely. Carmelo Anthony at the end of Game 2 in Boston and not Jeffries, the Knicks would have had their first playoff victory in 10 years.

Feliz’s shifting position: ‘I’m a closer … I won’t start anymore’

At least that’s how Neftali Feliz(notes) appeared to feel during an interview with USA Today’s Jorge L. Ortiz that was published on Sunday.

Feliz told Ortiz he worried about Wholesale Cheap LV snapback hats the rotator cuff soreness that landed him on the 15-day disabled list recently. The injury to his shoulder came, Feliz concluded, because the Texas Rangers — tinkering with the idea of making him a starter — stretched him out during spring training.

“The team has told me that next year I would Wholesale Cheap guuci snapback hats still have the chance to start, but I don’t want to do it anymore,” Feliz said. “This year my arm didn’t feel good after they moved me from the rotation back to closing, so I don’t want to go through that again and risk the same thing happening.”

But after the Rangers game later that day, Feliz backed off — kind of.

As reported on MLB.com:

As to whether he wants another chance to start next season, Feliz said, “Right now, I’m not even worried about that. Right now, I’m just focused on being the closer. Right now, I’m trying to get back healthy. Wholesale cheap new era snapbacke caps I’m not thinking about being a starter or not being a starter.”

He should have just said that in the first place. Evan Grant, who covers the team for the Dallas Morning News, warned that Feliz — who turns 23 on Monday — has been given to changing his mind on the subject.

Feliz came up as a starter, but moved to the bullpen shortly before his 2009 callup. He became the Rangers closer in the second week of the season last year and won the AL Rookie of the Year award. Midway through spring training this season, he said he wanted to remain a closer, but within a week changed his mind.

Rangers GM Jon Daniels said Sunday that the club would like to leave starting open as a consideration after the season, but not before. Feliz, according to the report, however, seems to have made up his mind. At least for now.

And now he’s keeping it open — which is probably Wholesale cheap New Era 59Fifty caps the right way to think. A couple of points:

One, simply being a relief pitcher won’t protect Feliz from injury. I’m not sure of the data on which — starter or reliever — is more likely to get hurt, but just look at who has been on the DL already this season:

Brian Wilson(notes), Andrew Bailey(notes), Brad Lidge(notes), David Aardsma(notes), Frank Francisco(notes) and Jose Contreras(notes). Six closers (not including Feliz) injured before May 1.

Point No. 2: Not only was Feliz strong as a starter in spring training, he was crazy good as a starting pitcher in the minors. Ace starting pitchers are more valuable than closers —

Wholesale Cheap Monster Energy Hats

within the game, and on payday — and Feliz would be costing himself millions of dollars by staying in the pen longterm.

Feliz is a great closer. With his stuff, there’s a chance he could become as good as any closer. At least for a while. But the numbers tell the truth. There’s a much bigger possibility of Feliz’s relief career looking more like that of Eric Gagné than Mariano Rivera(notes). He should keep the door to being a starter open.

Florida Gators Football 2011: Will Muschamp Takes a Stand with Janoris Jenkins

There is no doubt Janoris Jenkins is a talented kid.

I first saw it when he excelled in the role of Mr. Do-It-All for Pahokee High School. There, playing defensive back, running back, return man (you name it), he may have been the blank new era snapback hats wholesale best player in Florida’s ocean-deep prep football ranks.

He won his fourth state championship as a senior, leading the Blue Devils to a 53-14 victory against previously unbeaten, but highly overmatched Newberry, a team whose best player signed a national letter of intent with Charleston Southern.

Jenkins was phenomenal during that 2007 Class 2B title game, and his 80-yard touchdown run 13 seconds into the second half helped turn a 26-14 contest into the blowout it became.

But after the contest, Jenkins did the most classless cheap snapback caps wholesale move anyone in any of the eight championship games spanning two weeks in Orlando’s Citrus Bowl.

While the rest of his Blue Devil teammates celebrated, the future Florida Gator grabbed a sign that read “14-0 Undisputed” and shoved that in the downtrodden faces of his still-shaken opponents (who also entered the contest 13-0) while he participated in what was supposed to be the postgame handshake line.

So, sportsmanship has never been his strong suit.

In fairness, after he got to UF, I can’t recall any personal fouls or taunting issues. On the field he joined Joe Haden as the nation’s best cornerback tandem.

Early, opposing offenses did all they could to avoid Haden, cheap nba jerseys and Jenkins made the most of the added opportunities. And when Haden left school early for the NFL Draft – where he was selected seventh overall in 2010 by the Cleveland Browns – Jenkins became the Gators’ undisputed No. 1 cover man.

He intercepted three passes last season to join Louisiana State’s Patrick Peterson on the All-Southeastern Conference first team at corner. It was expected Jenkins would take his eight career college interceptions onto the NFL, where he would have joined Nebraska’s Prince Amukamara and Colorado’s Jimmy Smith in the second-tier of projected first-round cornerbacks ranked just behind Peterson.

Due in great part to having serious shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum suffered very early in the 2010 season (he toughed his way through it, playing very well despite the pain), Jenkins elected to return to Florida for his senior year.

That’s when it all started to go wrong.

He already had one strike against him, stemming from a 2009 arrest and Tasing following a street fight in downtown Gainesville, when he found himself arrested Jan. 24 for misdemeanor marijuana possession.

Then, after sitting out all of Spring practice while his shoulder cheap hats wholesale healed, Jenkins was arrested again last Saturday, again for misdemeanor marijuana possession.

And that was enough for new coach Will Muschamp, who dismissed arguably his team’s best player on Tuesday.

So, with his Gator career gone in a cloud of smoke, Jenkins now has three options, unless he wants to play in the Canadian Football League.

1. Apply for a supplemental draft with the NFL, one that likely would be held this summer.

2. Transfer to a Division II school, where he would be eligible to play immediately.

3. Transfer to another FBS university, where he would have to sit out a year before becoming eligible in 2012.

Jenkins told the Orlando Sentinel he hasn’t made a cheap new era hats Wholesale decision on his future, outside of saying he would finish the current semester at UF.

My guess is he moves on to the NFL, where the grass just might be greener. And as long as it isn’t rolled up or stuffed into a pipe, Jenkins should do just fine.

So far, Jenkins’ actions not only have cost him a scholarship, nhl jerseys from china it probably has cost him millions of dollars.

Someone is going to take a shot on Jenkins, and he may very well pay off for the franchise that takes that leap. His ability is unquestioned.

But Muschamp did the right thing for the University of Florida. Now, let’s hope Jenkins starts doing the right things for himself.
